Living our values

We envision our wedding ritual and celebration as a reflection of our core values and principles. Our intention is to create a meaningful experience that brings our community together for a purpose that celebrates our loving union and also transcends it. Our marriage is an opportunity for all of us to come together and truly honor the great gift of life on earth.

We chose the weekend of the Summer Solstice for our wedding because this is when the daylight is longest, the sun reaches the peak of its power, the earth is green and holds the promise of a fruitful harvest. Symbolically, it’s also the time to participate in life fully and honor the seeds of our souls.

Many traditions throughout time have observed the Solstice. This is a time of joyous love and growth, of vitality, strength, beauty and magnificence. As we plan our wedding ritual and celebration, we appreciate and rejoice in the generous abundance of the earth, and the richness and diversity of our beloved friends and families. Let's dance, sing, play, and be filled with love and joy!

For our "pot-luck" wedding feast, we will buy locally grown salad greens and fruit from our favorite organic farmers, and of course, prepare Evangeline's famous baked cheese-grits. We are asking our guests to contribute organic, vegetarian foods and salad-bar fixings to create a bountiful summer harvest.

We have grown and cultivated much in our four years together as loving partners. In our commitment ceremony, we are inviting a much larger part of ourselves to come forward and create in ways in which we become more fully alive. May our principles be the foundation of our actions in the world.

Arin proposed to Evangeline at Phoenix Lake, a short drive from our home, in May 2006.

Engagement tree
We were sitting near this beautiful tree. We love the symbolism of the two branches growing from the sturdy trunk.
